I can’t believe these two little shows in the basque country in like may last year was our last tour ith NED. When I think about it it gives me the creeps. Luckily I actually haven’t thought about it until now. Our relationship has been complicated and I guess the crisis that happens in every couple like in every ménage à trois was pretty heavy this time. I have to confess the paternity of this strange, weird, extremely unpleasant, hateful feeling. I just was so angry at them. So fucking very lonely and frustrated. It’s all over now. It’s still a little complicated to go in the details but we’re recording a new album this summer, in the basque country, at AMANITA records, with STEFAN KRUEGER and ALEX GARACOTCHE. The loop is completed. There will be more posts about this I’m sure.

Elizabeth and Christopher were living in Lyon last year. We became real good friends. We even took them with NED on tour in the basque country, they opened the two shows with a bunch of their songs they had been writing while hanging out in Elizabeth’s little student room in Guillottiere. Then they left. Back to Athens Georgia, the place they called home. A few months later we started trying to find a way to see each other again. I really couldn’t afford holidays just for the sake of it. That’s also the moment when we started this little project with Lisa Duroux and we were starting to wonder what to do with it, and then came to mind the idea of maybe offering Elizabeth and Christopher’s band, newly named FAVORITE COUSIN to meet them for Elizabeth’s spring break, rehearse a bunch of songs and do a short tour as a rock quartet. That was all meant to be a never-concretized-project but Lisa took it really seriously and found real cheap tickets, so cheap there was no way to change my mind. Lisa really really wanted to see what the peace/bike/punk/collective scene in the states was. Quite obsessed with that fantasy actually, she took all the initiative and made it happen. For many reasons in my personal life, that wasn’t a good idea at all, considering my tendency of not being in control of my priorities and completely being a slave of circumstances and being a total stranger to my real feelings or just common sense. In reality, it was just a great opportunity to see some old good friends, see the sun again, revive beautiful memories, play fun, easy, good-for-the-soul, beautiful music and just hang out. I loved it. It’s just myself that I hate sometimes.

Il faut vraiment qu’on arrête de faire des concerts, en tous cas moi je dois vraiment arrêter. Je ne sais pas depuis combien de temps j’ai organisé un concert avec plus de 25 personnes… Je crois qu’en fait ce n’est d’une part plus du tout mon truc et plus du tout en phase avec ce que veulent voir les gens. Je pense aussi que d’être parti sans partir, enfin tout du moins en passant une grosse partie de mon temps toute l’année dernière entre Bruxelles et je-ne-sais-où en tournée, j’ai perdu une grande partie de l’intérêt que portaient les gens à nos activités en tant qu’S.K… Les concerts foireux que j’ai pu faire pendant toute cette période creuse n’ont pas franchement été couronnés de succès: C et DEVEROVA CHYBA (réhaussé d’une petite amande d’affichage sauvage bien sentie), J’M'EN FOUS et VIALKA au salon du grrrnd zero et maintenant un truc qui était quand même sensé être une soirée de “soutien” puisque tout le monde avait accepté de jouer gratos pour nous à GRAND GUIGNOL un vendredi soir, une chouette affiche, AGATHE MAX, K.R.K, et deux potes de Loïc de la librairie, Fabrice Favriou et Tô Tilly. On était 6. C’était quand même très très triste et décevant. Le concert était hyper bien mais ça m’a quand même fait pas mal frissonner derrière mon bar de fortune dans la petite cave humide emplie de larsens et d’yeux fermés par les déflagrations sonores. Il y en aura peut être d’autres mais franchement je préfère essayer de ne plus JAMAIS en faire en gardant à l’esprit que je n’y arriverai jamais et que je me sentirai encore obligé d’en caser un ou deux par-ci par là…
Sans amertume je me dis que quand même la scène a changé. J’ai mis du temps à m’en rendre compte. Déni? Autruche? Trop occupé la tête dans le guidon? Trop pris par l’esprit de contradiction vis à vis de ceux qui me répetaient d’ouvrir les yeux et que la réalité de cette scène n’éxistait plus que dans mes rêves? Je ne sais pas mais bizarrement je me rends compte aujourd’hui après avoir passé un an à aller voir presque tous les concerts de grrrnd zero en me croyant toujours à ma place, chez moi, que j’en ai détesté la plupart.

It’s the cover of the new RUBIKS album. We recorded it more than a year ago. It’s crazy how this band works really slow. It’s awesome though, we’re always super creative and inspired every time we play but i have no idea if it’s going anywhere at all. Seb, who really doesn’t need any extra work having a lot of stuff on his plate with KABUKI BUDDAH, his full time job and his two kids, was very angry at us both since he had to handle all the shitwork and the crappy relation with the pressing plant while Andy and I were depressed from breaking ups and/ or away on tour. Since I got back I got a little bit of my shit together and got some work done. Folding covers, shipping records to our generous contributors, Rejuvenation records and boom boom ricordz and some other stuff too. We’re even thinking of rehearsing next week AND we have three shows this month! Unbelievable but true.
One is at a high school, this teacher guy, friend of François Virot’s curates this program of bands playing in front of a bunch of high school kids in the suburbs of Lyon. François says it’s a lot of fun. I bet it is. I can’t wait. The next day we’re playing at 12xU’s rehearsal studio at grrrnd zero. Parties at grrrnd zero wow! that’s quite new!!
And then we have the show at Clac’son with ZERO and THE GOOD DAMN on may 15th, it’s going to be pretty neat. Marion the programmer wants it to be a real release party eventhough we’re just replacing PROGRAMME.
